Following a tough 4-3 loss to the Washington Capitals, forward Evgeny Grachev was assigned to Hartford.
Grachev showed strong signs of being a top-six forward in the league. However, his skating and timing could use some refining in Hartford.
Here is the release:
RANGERS ASSIGN EVGENY GRACHEV TO HARTFORD22 Active Players Remain With The Club
New York, September 27, 2009 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced
today that the club has assigned forward Evgeny Grachev to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League
(AHL). The Rangers now have 22 players remaining in training camp, including two goaltenders, seven defensemen
and 13 forwards. The BlueshirtsÂ’ next practice is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, at 11:00 a.m. at the MSG
Training Center.
Grachev will be back. He is close but has to work on the mental aspect of the game, reading and reacting faster at the NHL level. I like Prospal at centre better than Dubinsky and would flip flop those two on the first line with Gabby.

Once again the Rangers prefer to be a less talented team than they have to be. Please let me know when, if ever, Aaron Voros will be able to score a single goal to match the quality one Grachev scored against Varlamov. Yes folks, it is time for the Rangers to allow a young sniper to play the role of 18th man. I think this particular youngster could learn on the go while playing with the big club; I disagree with those who think all talented 19 yr olds need a stint in Hartford. This move smells of cap! By the way, is the igel Dawes playing on a line with Jokkinen and Iginla in Calgary the same one we traded last year. You know the one who scored 25 goals while with the Blueshirts--8 of which were game winners. Wasn't he not good enuf to play in NY? Bet he gets more points this season than Dubi or Callahan.
