Happy halloween guys! I think I'm getting a little old for this kind of things, but today I'm going to get as many candy as possible! Do you guys have a costume already? I saw this video that gives some makeup tips: http://www.weshow.com/us/p/21422/halloween_makeup_tips

Good luck on your candy hunt!

TRICK OR TREAT??

TREAT: A package of plantain chips.

TRICK: I post today!!

Josh

Do you guys have a costume already?

The guy to talk to is Jess. He dresses up like it's Halloween every day of the year. I'm sure he can lend you one of his many! :)

My original costume was a very authetic Donald Brashear costume, but i scared all the kids away, so im just gonna stay home and watch a buncha horror movies. The classis ones, not the garbage rip offs or re makes they have these days...

Go Rangers!!!

Former Ranger Jason LaBarbara tore it up over the past few weeks; he was named the NHL's first star of last week. Anyone think this will keep up? I never thought he had the stuff to be a good NHL starter. Maybe one of the prospect guys can opine? Thanks!

Ugh... I'll be coming home tired from work, and I still have to do yard work that I've been putting off this week due to my lack of rest.. then I have to give candy to snot-nosed little punks that are useless?

Happy Halloween, trick or treat smell my feet, give me something good to watch tommorow night vs the capitals..HAHAHAHAHA Happy Halloween friends....

There will never be a better Ranger game on Halloween, then the one were Sam and JD had the Beavis & Butthead masks.

I miss JD damnit. I want JD back!!!!!

I like Joe Micheletti and he has definitely grown on me but no one will ever be as good as JD!..especially with Sam. I almost hope for the Blues to completely tank with the hope we get him back in the booth someday.

I think maybe we should wait til saturday to get Valiquette a game. Devils are a lot less explosive on offense than Washington.

labarbara did the same thing i think last year, got off to a hot start in october-november, ranger fans everywhere lamented his loss, and after that he reverted to type

he's more the second coming of denis lemieux than ken dryden

Once again, if anyone has interest in free luxury box tickets to tomorrow night's game, shoot me an email at paul@hspnews.com. I will know tomorrow if tickets will be available.

I like Joe Mic also however he's no JD and probably will never been because he never played for the Rangers and most of the color guys in the league. Joe is doing a great job though. I have reading the Avery will play with Prucha and Dubi thats a great move. They really need some scoring from the third line. Also Jagr looks happy I think we are ready to get going.

Happy Halloween Ranger Fans!

Can't wait for tomorrow night's game...it should (hopefully) be a good one!

Hey everyone,

Happy Halloween. Off day, little to say. Nice win last game...keep it rolling. Wanted to put in a word for Shanahan, since he's totally cool and gets a little shizz from some folks. It's not just goals he's been synonymous with, but professionalism, too. He's still bringing that. Did you see when he charged the net and got took out, when he hit the boards the guy who was on him clipped Shanny in the mouth with his skate blade?

Also, word to Henrik Lundqvist. You guys call him the King. I call him Stonehenge. Yeah, it's a stretch, but it would look cool on his hat.

Peace.

Happy Halloween, y'all.

Jameson

According to Brooks, Vally should not get a start til atleast next week vs. the Isles, barring any unforeseen circumstances; whatever that means.

paulf

Thank you for the offer but unfortunately I am too far away...

Jameson

sorry but I can't play Valiquette against the Devils. I wouldn't mind him playing against Washington but i'D like to wait till we start scoring again...

i think you have to play Valiquette tomorrow night because the stretch coming up of division games is going to be intense and very important to the standings and your going to need lundqvist fresh

So, we have prucha, cally, dawes and a bunch off other little guys in Hartford. Wouldn't it make sense to package 2 of these guys and get a rugged winger with some talent. We are such a soft team. A time will come when we play a team and they just beat up on use. Can't argue with Gordie's eye for talent but why can't he draft a guy like Milan Lucic. Guy is beating up heacyweights and he has a lot of talent. I am tired of being the guys who get beat up.

jack,
you should take karate.

Like Jack, would like to see them come up with a good big power forward who can handle himself. We got plenty of talented guys but not that physically big. Maybe in next years draft. BTW, don't think Jessiman will ever fill that role for the Rangers. Don't want to trade any of our young talented guys either.

To explain further, at least for this season, even if our young guys gets hurt, there's another one just as talented waiting for his chance. Callahan gets hurt and Dawes replaces him without missing a beat. And there's Moore, Byers and others available in the event there's more injuries. Never remember the Rangers being able to do this in the past.

I hope Renney keeps the best players in the lineup, vet or no vet when the injured return. If the team is playing better with the rookie, it doesn't make sense to me to use the excuse he can be sent down to Hartford without waivers for a reason to take him out of the lineup.

i just had a revelation
imagine when callahan avery and straka are healthy sitting hossa hollweg and orr

the offense we would have (yeah i know we should have to be wishing about offense this year)

Chris, I would sit Strudwick first, then two of the three you mentioned.

Chris

then what happens when a team takes a run at our guys. Do we want to rely on Shanahan to defend them...even though Hollweg and Orr won't score more than 2-3 goals they are essential parts of the team.

Dude

Given how this is his second real shot at the NHL it is hard to say. I have watched Labs since his days with the Portland Winterhawks and he has always had the tools, always had the skill but is the prime example of inconsistency.

I once watched him in a playoff series shut everyone down with a GAA of less than 1 and then in the next round not be able stop a puck to save his life.

Jack

Hey Jack are you wanting to have a sign right before the players enter the ice that says "you must be this tall and can fight before you play for the Rangers?"

Did you look at the Hartford roster? How about a look at the kids in the system? There is some size in Hartford (and I am not talking goons I am talking legit prospects) and there is some size among the prospects.

If we can muster up a killer power play that would discourage a lot of teams from trying to beat us up. Would love to have Hadfield/Vickers/Kurtenbach in the line-up but I'll settle for who we have. Nobody noticed that Hossa didn't like being pushed around on Monday. Another question...Aside from his salary why is everyone so down on Mara.. He's no #2 but he 's okay...Jess I'm going to take my Islander hat and go trick or treating in Newark...Later...Z

#2 meaning Brian Leetch...Z

Dennis,

"I like Joe Micheletti and he has definitely grown on me but no one will ever be as good as JD!..especially with Sam. I almost hope for the Blues to completely tank with the hope we get him back in the booth someday"

100% Agree.

Stop with all this sitting out Orr talk. If you wanna sit out anyone sit out Ryan "i cant win a fight" Hollweg. Remember what the flyers did to us when Orr wasnt't in the lineup? Plus, the Ducks proved last year that toughness can win cups so leave Orr on the fourth and get Hollweg out

Craigz

Jess I'm going to take my Islander hat and go trick or treating in Newark...Later...Z

Ah cmon haven't those people in Jersey suffered enough without you having to bother them?

There's no way we can go with both Hollweg and Orr out of the lineup. It's as I said in another thread, a major reason why you haven't seen much chippiness in these games so far is just the fact that Orr is in the lineup. He's become one of the heavyweight fighters in the league, players know they'll have to answer to him if theyre taking advantage of Jagr or Prucha or Gomez or whoever, and they also know he knocks people out cold...

nyr1994ever,

thats EXACTLY what I've been pointing out to people! Without Orr, teams will tage huge liberties against our stars, which can only hurt us.

Dont bench me!!!!!!!

You will regret it.

Hollweg is cool, but we have hitters. We only need one enforcer.

teams are not going to run the NYR & take penalties to face Jagr, Shanahan, Drury, & Gomez on the PP. Orr is not going to stop teams from hitting. The NYR have to just play their game by making teams pay for taking penalties by scoring on the PP. It's hard to tell if Orr is really a deterent or just taking a spot, but so far Renney has kept him in there. I'm not sure that will be the case when this team is playing at it's offensive potential consistently, and has 23 healthy players.

I hate to say it, but as awful as Orr is, that knock out of Fedoruk last year was a serious message sent to the rest of the league. Anyone care to speculate how much THAT had to do with the Ranger resurgence last year?

Anaheim may have won with toughness (or great team defense), but the guy most similar to Orr (George Parros) played only 5 games in the playoffs. I've never been a big fan of Hollweg, but lately he has shown he can do more than just agitate. When I try an gauge the worth of a tough guy, I like to look at the stats from juniors and the minors. If the guy put some decent numbers, then I assume that he has some skill. If all he did was fight, he really doesn't belong in the NHL, IMO.

imitiation-
When your power play is 22nd in the league and not only 15%, I hightly doubt any team is particularly afraid of the Rangers power play..Look at Atlanta, Hossa, Kovalchuk, Kozlov they are a pretty good unit but no one is afraid of giving up a penalty to them, other than wasting a few minutes.

Regardless, I don't see why people are saying now to sit Orr and Hollweg and put in other guys..It's not like until now Orr and Hollweg were in the lineup because we didn't have anyone else...Thye have their job and they do it well..Renney is not going to sit them in favor of anyone else.

Jess says we have size in Hartford and in the organization. But that means they are not ready for this year,we need it now not just in the future.

Where did I say that nobody was ready this year?

Do not say that I said or inferred things when I never did.

That is so uncool to do

Speaking of big prospects, Jessiman looks like a bust at this point. Wasn't he selected before Sather got smart and developed the excellent scouting organization he has today?

Plus theres a difference between small vs fragile. Prucha I wouls call fragile, like Camille Henry of the old Rangers many years ago, but appears able to take a hit like Camille used to.

Dawes, as an example, is small in height but built like a bull and can hit as well as take a hit. Now if he can fight like other guys his size such as Stan Johnathon, George McPhee, Ted Lindsay (although Hadfield beat him up), and I remember the Islanders had a similar guy, forgot his name, Dawes will be the complete player.

That's a big difference I see today vs many years ago when the majority of skilled players took care of themselves like Gordie Howe, Andy Bathgate. Back then, there weren't any guys just on the team to be a goon. There was no Semenko to protect Gretzky.

If skilled players can take care of themselves that makes the team even more potent because they don't need a goon to protect them. That's the direction I hope the Rangers are going.

Still stick with two of Hossa, Orr and Hollweg sitting when Straka and Callahan return.

Jess... It is hockey season. If i can make the people of Newark and Long Island suffer I am Happy...Z

There was a nice piece somewhere (nhl.com or tsn.ca, I think) about Tampa Bay's Vincent Lecavalier (sp?). It talked about what everyone is talking about here - skilled players taking care of themselves. He has 2 fighting majors this year and leads the team in PIMs. Just like in the 50s with the Gordie Howe Hat Trick.
