The Rangers claimed enforcer Colton Orr off waivers yesterday. This is the guy Dale Purinton eye-gouged to earn his ten-game suspension. Whether the Rangers need an enforcer is the debate taken up by Andrew Gross in the Journal News and Colin Stephenson in the Star-Ledger. The Rangers certainly need to pick up their physical play and their intimidation factor, but whether Orr can provide that without possessing any NHL caliber hockey skills is one question. Who sits if he dresses in another question.
Martin Rucinsky and Steve Rucchin inched closer to returning to the line-up, practicing with the rest of the team yesterday. Both remain uncertain for tomorrow night's game vs. the Penguins. Reports in Newsday and the Post. Tom Poti remained sidelined with a groin injury. Kevin Weekes skated again but remains out.
Check out Hockey Rodent for some interesting (though unverified) news from Russia about the Fedor Fedorov fight in Tampa a few weeks ago.
Several games ago Ruca was run at from behind AND WAS LOST FOR THE PASR SEVERAL WEKS, a few games later Kasperitas was run face forward into the boards and had his nose broken, even more disturbing was a strugling Washington team came to thr Garden and by being physical outplayed the Rangers for over two thirds of the game. The Rangers need a physical presence. As the season goes on play will be tighter especially in the playoffs. Getting Colton Orr is a good try. Don Maloney stop crying and making excuses, hire a skating coach for Orr and in the downtime you and your brother can teach strategy to Orr. That is what teaching and player developement are all about. If he still can not play find, coach and teach someone else[Grenier, MacIntire etc.]Yes the Rangers need a phsical presence, stop being an Ostich with your head in the sand.
