Marc Staal, brother of Carolina's Eric Staal, was the Rangers' first round selection in the draft today after they traded up to #12 in order to get the big defensive defenseman. Full report on the draft later this weekend.
Tom Poti received a qualifying offer, as did Kevin Weekes, Jamie Lundmark, Jed Ortmeyer, and a few other marginal minor leaguers. The Rangers announced the signing of Hugh Jessiman and Henrik Lundqvist Friday.
There was some confusion in CT that day about Darius Kasparaitis -- he was supposed to appear there Friday evening, but had to turn around and return to his home in Westchester, some said because he received news of being bought out of his Ranger contract. They must have heard wrong -- the news he received was that he was not going to be bought out.
