The question going into Game 5 in D.C. Friday night was which team was going to get to the other team's goalie first. Henrik Lundqvist had been singlehandedly stealing the series for the Rangers, who have scored only three goals in four games since Game 1 but have won two of those games thanks to their netminder. Simeon Varlamov has only given up those three goals in four games, but with him it was not a matter of the Rangers getting past him, it was them getting to him in the first place -- he has seen only 98 shots in those four games, an average of less than 25 per game, and most of them were harmless, almost none of them rebound shots.
The rest of our report on last night's debacle is at Blueshirt Bulletin+, with John Tortorella, Scott Gomez, Marc Staal, and Henrik Lundqvist talking about the blowout loss but not about the the coach's benchig of Sean Avery or his altercation with Caps' fans.
