UPDATE: Anyone watching the San Jose v. Anaheim game on VS. saw the statement from the NHL regarding the suspension. According to the NHL, Tortorella instigated the incident by squirting a fan with a water bottle. The fan retaliated by throwing a beer and the rest is history.
Do the Rangers rally around Tortorella or have they grown tired of the coach's approach? Stay tuned...
A mere 24 hours after benching Sean Avery for disciplinary problems, Head Coach John Tortorella has been suspended by the NHL for his actions in throwing a water bottle at a fan during last night's 4 - 0 rout by the Capitals.
Apparently, a fan threw a cup of beer at the fiery coach and Tortorella retaliated by throwing a water bottle back.
There is a tremendous amount of irony here, of course, as Tortorella has demanded discipline and thinking on the ice, but has lost his temper to the point of suspension.
Bottom line: Tortorella needed to keep his control and didn't.
Same as Avery.
More on Avery tonight...
