The Rangers today acquired Marcel Hossa [left], Marian's younger brother, who turns 24 next month, in a straight-up trade for Garth Murray, who just turned 23 this month. In so doing, the Rangers got a player projected to be a top six forward in exchange for one destined to be a checker. Hossa's scouting report reads: "Excellent shot, very creative in the offensive zone. Possesses the size and strength to win battles in the corners." Murray's reads: "Extremely limited offensive contributor. Must work extra hard just to maintain a spot in the NHL because of a lack of natural talent." On the flip side, Murray gets high marks for his physical, aggressive, and defensive play, while Hossa comes with question marks about his intensity level, consistency, and defensive zone play. While it never hurts to have as many assets as possible with Hossa's kind of upside, forwards Petr Prucha and Jozef Balej must be wondering what the arrival of the Slovak winger means to them.
