The Rangers have brought two more of their prospects into the fold, signing Dominic Moore [left] and Bryce Lampman to contracts. Both players played with the Wolf Pack last season and have a shot at making the big club out of training camp, Moore with perhaps a better chance than Lampman. Still no confirmation on the Ranger signing of Michal Rozsival, though Hokej.cz stands by their report and Eurohockey.net now shows the transfer as confirmed.
Cablevision is considering building a whole new Madison Square Garden across the street from the current arena, according to a New York Post report, as part of the new Penn Station slated to be developed in the post office on the west side of Eighth Avenue. Their interest at this point is exploratory, with the planned major renovation of the familiar building on the east side of Eighth Avenue still the likeliest course of action.
Hockey's Future analyzes the Rangers' 2005 draft, noting the team's focus on filling holes on defense, drafting from the Canadian junior system rather than Europe or U.S. colleges, and selecting the brothers of other NHL players or prospects.
You'd think a new network trying to build a base of viewers would expend their energy attracting fans in the largest TV market in the country instead of insisting that they have the power to black them out of their own home team's games, like the season opener between the Rangers and Flyers. Instead, Flyer owner Comcast's OLN refuted a Post report that Cablevision subscribers who already have OLN cannot be blacked out of a game they already paid for.
Another NHL owner is in court. Steve Belkin, who has never witnessed the Thrashers play a game since he headed a group of investors who bought the team from Time Warner, is in court suing the remainder of that group of investors after they forced him to sell his stake in the Hawks, Thrashers, and Philips Arena. The dispute arose from Belkin's meddling in management of the NBA Hawks, not the Thrashers. See the Atlanta Journal Constitution report on the lawsuit for more information [registration required].
